Context of Practice Essay

We've now been set our essay questions, from which I have chosen to answer 'Could it be Argued that Fine Art Ought to be Assigned More Value than Graphic Design?'
Coming from a foundation course that explored work from a more fine art perspective, I feel like I can create a fair argument.

These are the books I will be using as source material.

Jameson, H.(2007) Visual Communication: More Than Meets the Eye, Bristol, Intellect Books.
Chosen because the critical theories explored in the book are interesting and relevant to the idea of high art vs low art.

Drucker, J. and McVarish, E. (2009) Graphic Design History: A Critical Guide, New Jersey, Pearson Education Inc.
Chosen because it provides useful notes on the later eras of graphic design such as post modernism and the digital age, areas I hope to reference in my essay.

Cramsie, P. (2010) The Story of Graphic Design, London, The British Library.
Chosen because it includes a very detailed history on Graphic Design which will be an important part of my essay.

Eskilson, S.J. (2007) Graphic Design: A New History, London, Laurence King Publishing.
Chosen because it explains in depth the history of graphics and contextualises it clearly.

Meecham, P. and Sheldon, J. (2005) Modern Art: A Critical Introduction Second Edition, Oxon, Routledge.
Chosen because it includes useful notes about theory within modern art, and also talks about the division of high art and popular culture
