Underpinning with Theory

Because my designer a week diary will be featuring mainly contemporary designers and studios, I also want to include some features within the publication about design theory and movements within graphics.

I have found several books detailing the history of specific movements, which I will post shortly, but I have also found a website which has some incredibly useful information on movements relating to modernism, and the movements that came after or as a reaction to modernism.

http://www.designhistory.org

The website offers concise summaries of the movements and their historical context, which would be something I would want to mimic in my own features, so that the first years find the information engaging rather than boring.
I want to research into specific movements further, such as modernism, the international style, the history of typography, new wave, punk and pop art.

These are some of the designers that I hope to place in my publication, that I have sourced from everyones blogs, based on the Blog Marry Avoid task.

'I am a 25 year old London based creative. I run ISO & Isomorph Records which you can read about here. I have a fascination with three sided shapes, illegible typography, and freeform lettering.'

Kate Moross

Her work uses an incredible amount of colour, and her illustrative style and hand drawn type create a fun, fresh and youthful aesthetic.
Her clients include Cadburys and the Guardian, amongst others.

A Design and Ideas studio based in Glasgow. They work across a variety of platforms and for a diverse range of clients. Their work is clean, minimal and luxurious. The quality of their designs are phenomenal.

Isabel is freelance illustrator and writer based in London. Her hand drawn style of illustration is beautiful and funny, creating something visually unique and engaging. She has illustrated for Nobrow and The Observer.

Mark is a graphic designer and illustrator based in New York. His work has been featured in several high profile publications, and his illustration style is based around a mixture of photo montage and digital illustration.
