Individual Practice: Seven/Five Logo Research

Here is a collection of logos I have found that are relevant to my designs for the Seven/Five brief. Almost all of the films logos appear to have similar designs, with a modern, sans serif typeface and an image that relates to a film reel in some way. I think the most successful logos are the ones where the effect is more subtle, such as with Horror Films logo, where the film reel also appears as a very simplistic frightened/frightening face, and the black and white colour works effectively here because it means it retains it simplicity and impact. Black and white is a common theme with all of the logos, again because it has links to film, and is also a classic colour scheme, which gives the logos more of a timeless feel. Another logo that I think is very successful is the Tribeca Film Festival, with the clever use of the I running throughout all of the text, which is laid out very simply but beautifully. The colours used are more luxe, which relates to the calibre of the event. The text used is bold and sans serif, which again gives it a timelessness, and aesthetically it connotes a sense of the quality of the event. I like that they have not used any obvious imagery relating to film, as the use of text is recognisable enough.
